Steakhouse 71 at Disney’s Contemporary Resort is open again Monday, September 7, after an unexpected September 6 closure canceled guests’ reservations. WDW News Today reports Cast Members were told the interruption was for “unplanned maintenance,” while Walt Disney World’s restaurant page was once again showing the location open with reservations available.
For a restaurant steeped in Walt Disney World’s 1971 history, this is the loveliest kind of sequel: very little plot. One lost service day is painful if your reservation vanished, but the fresh September 7 update turns Sunday’s closure from an active trip warning into a contained interruption.
One bad Sunday, not an ongoing closure
Steakhouse 71 normally serves breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner inside the Contemporary. It opened in 2021, replacing The Wave… of American Flavors as part of Walt Disney World’s 50th-anniversary era.
That broad meal schedule is exactly why a full-day closure could disrupt far more than one dinner seating. WDWNT saw reservations available again Monday, although its report does not inventory every meal period or promise that every preferred time returned to the booking calendar.
The maintenance itself remains a closed kitchen door. The report does not identify the affected equipment or system or supply a more detailed explanation.
