Disney's Play Disney Parks app is scheduled to retire on September 16, 2026. For Walt Disney World guests, that means some app-led games will end, some MagicBand+ interactions will remain, and the future of one EPCOT activity has not been announced.

The change does not affect My Disney Experience. Guests will still use Disney's main Walt Disney World app for wait times, mobile food ordering, Lightning Lane selections, tickets, and day-of plans.

Key details

  • Play Disney Parks is scheduled to retire September 16, 2026.
  • The app's guided games are expected to end with it.
  • Star Wars: Datapad is listed as ending with the app.
  • Batuu Bounty Hunters is expected to continue through MagicBand+ and in-land screens.
  • Fab 50 statues and their MagicBand+ audio effects will remain.
  • The app's Fab 50 progress tracker will not continue.
  • DuckTales World Showcase Adventure's future has not been confirmed.

What changes in the parks

Play Disney Parks launched in 2018 as a companion app designed to turn queues, lands, and resort spaces into interactive play areas. At Walt Disney World, it has supported activities ranging from trivia and attraction-queue games to park-wide scavenger-style experiences.

The September retirement matters most for guests who planned time around specific app-led activities. At EPCOT, DuckTales World Showcase Adventure has used the app to guide guests through interactive missions around World Showcase. Mickey Visit reports that the experience has been closed for refurbishment in recent weeks and that Disney has not stated whether it will return in another form.

That uncertainty should be treated plainly: the available report does not confirm a permanent end for DuckTales World Showcase Adventure. It confirms only that its future was not announced alongside the app retirement.

Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge has a more defined split. The Star Wars: Datapad experience is expected to retire with the app, while Batuu Bounty Hunters is expected to remain available through MagicBand+ and physical in-land screens. Those are different experiences, so guests should not assume a MagicBand+ replacement preserves every former app feature.

Fab 50 statues are staying

The Fab 50 character statues across Walt Disney World's four parks will remain in place. Guests can still trigger their audio effects by waving a MagicBand+ at participating statues, according to Mickey Visit's reporting.

What changes is the digital checklist. The app's ability to track which statues a guest has found will end when Play Disney Parks retires. For guests who enjoy making the statues a park-day challenge, a photo album or note is a simple replacement after September 16.

The attractions and themed details connected to the app do not disappear merely because the app does. A queue's visual storytelling, Animal Kingdom's Tree of Life Gardens, and the parks' other built-in details will still be there; the guided digital layer is what is changing.

A small planning adjustment for September trips

Families and repeat visitors with a Play Disney Parks activity on their must-do list should complete it before September 16 rather than leave it for a later visit. That is especially true for Star Wars: Datapad, which is specifically identified as retiring with the app.

For everyone else, this is not a change to the core Disney World planning system. My Disney Experience remains the place for the practical parts of a visit: tickets, reservations, mobile order, wait times, Lightning Lane, and plans.

The real loss is a niche but distinctive layer of park play. Guests who loved using the app to uncover details and complete missions have a clear deadline; guests who never used it should not expect their normal Disney World app routine to change.
