The Sassagoula River Cruise between Disney’s Old Key West Resort and Disney Springs is unavailable from October 12 through November 1, 2026, while refurbishment work continues along the boat route. Walt Disney World bus service is operating as the substitute during the closure.
And yes, a second boat pause in one season feels especially cheeky at Old Key West, where the waterway is not background dressing; it is the resort’s most distinctive connection to Disney Springs. The bus keeps the destination reachable. It does not keep the same lovely exhale at the end of the ride.
A repeat closure, not a resort-wide shutdown
WDWMAGIC reports that this is the second recent closure for Old Key West’s Sassagoula service. The route was also paused from July 20 through early August for the same continuing work.
The current notice is narrower than a shutdown of every Sassagoula boat. The confirmed impact is the Old Key West connection to Disney Springs, so guests at Port Orleans or Saratoga Springs should not read this as a blanket closure of their own boat routes.
Disney has not detailed what the refurbishment involves. That missing scope matters more than a pretty construction theory: there is no confirmed project list here, and no basis for guessing that the work will change the guest experience once service returns.
The November 1 return is the date to circle lightly
Boat service is scheduled to return November 1. We would treat that as the current operational date, not a promise written in pixie dust, because transportation work can move and the source provides no reopening time for that day.
Until then, Disney’s stated alternative is the bus to Disney Springs. The practical boundary is pleasingly clear, even if the loss is not: Old Key West still has transportation to the Springs, but its breeziest route is off the board through the end of October.
