Walt Disney World reportedly changed its home-shipping system on September 1. Instead of calculating domestic shipping from the value of the merchandise, participating resorts now use four color-coded bag sizes priced from $19.97 to $49.97.
Honestly, this makes far more sense. A tiny expensive collectible does not become harder to ship just because the receipt has a dramatic number at the bottom. The box has always been the real problem, and the new system finally admits it.
The bag decides the bill
The photographed pricing instructions list four standard choices:
- Extra-small green bag: $19.97
- Small pink bag: $29.97
- Medium blue bag: $44.97
- Large yellow bag: $49.97
The extra-small bag is intended for trinkets and small purchases. The printed examples place a few shirts, a small toy, or a popcorn bucket in the small bag; souvenirs, plush toys, or a small suitcase in the medium; and a small carry-on with additional items in the large.
Those are examples, not measurements. Until exact dimensions surface, we would not make any confident promises about which bag can defeat your particular popcorn bucket.
Custom, international, and overweight shipments use a clear bag. Packages exceeding 50 pounds count as overweight.
The process has moved online
Guests collect the appropriate bag and zip-tie tag from a participating resort, place the items inside, and leave the bag open. A QR code leads to an online form for the shipping address, bag information, insurance, item list, contact details, and payment.
After payment, the guest secures the bag with the provided tag and hands it back at the participating location. Ricoh’s Merchandise Shipping Center processes the package, then sends a confirmation email with tracking information.
The base rates include insurance coverage up to $100. Additional coverage follows a separate fee schedule, with a listed maximum of $5,000 before the shipment moves into the custom category.
This is considerably friendlier than discovering at the airport that your carry-on has become a soft-sided tribute to every gift shop you visited.
Where the new system is available
WDW News Today confirmed the program at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort, Contemporary Resort, Caribbean Beach Resort, Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, and Coronado Springs Resort. The outlet was told it may roll out to additional resorts.
That does not mean every resort or every merchandise location is participating today. Ask before assuming your final-night packing rescue is waiting downstairs.
The reporting also does not supply exact bag dimensions, delivery estimates, a complete destination list, or every rule governing eligible items. Those are meaningful gaps, especially for international guests or anyone shipping something oversized.
Still, pricing the package by the space it occupies feels like a cleaner answer. Your souvenir receipt no longer gets to decide whether the suitcase wins.
